Georeferencing is the process of assigning spatial coordinates to an object or data that lacks this information. One common use is georeferencing scans of old maps to be used in digital mapping programs. In this workshop we will take a scanned historic map and georeferenced it so it can be used in mapping programs such as Google Earth, CartoDB, or ArcGIS. We will also experiment with overlaying data on top of our newly georeferenced maps. If you’ve ever wanted to plot points using a historic basemap, this workshop is for you!
