The term “information literacy” (the ability to access, evaluate, and use information) often calls to mind the traditional library session, in which students are introduced to the basics of navigating library resources. While such instruction is valuable, it can only scratch the surface of the research process.  The Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education – adopted this year by the Association for College & Research Libraries (ACRL) – offers another way of conceiving of information literacy by foregrounding conceptual understandings of information use such as “Research as Inquiry” and “Scholarship as Conversation.” In this interactive workshop educators across disciplines will be introduced to the Framework and invited to consider its pedagogical implications within and across subject areas.
