Omeka-s beta was released in the fall of 2016 and is a new approach to creating Omeka sites. Omeka Classic allowed only one site to use the items collected for a digital exhibit. Omeka-s allows multimple sites to use the items collected together. This multi-site capability makes Omeka-s ideal for certain scenarios, such as classroom use (a site for each student but shared items) or a large organization that has many different ways they want to exhibit its digital collection.
In this session, I plan to demonstrate the new version of Omeka, Omeka-s and show how it differs from Omeka Classic. I will discuss how to add new items, how to create sites around the central collection, how to add different file types to an item, how Omeka-s uses its central collection of items among multiple sites and how to add pages and define their layout in a site.
