Indiana University Information Technology has moved away from other tools to present video toward Kaltura Mediaspace. Mediaspace allows student, faculty and staff at IU to upload video and audio files for playback in Mediaspace. While you can also use Avalon Media Collections Online, it is designed primarily for collections of videos, not necessarily for the display of a single video file or for a presentation or lecture. What most folks at IU don't realize is that Kaltura has an API that allows you to interact with Mediaspace and embed your videos in other websites. But not just your whole video; you can set start and stop points in the streaming video to be able to present just a segment of the video. This session will show how to work with Kaltura Mediaspace to create your account and upload videos. I will then demo how to use a plugin I developed for Omeka that will read the Kaltura video stream and allow you to set start and stop points and embed those videos in items, pages, exhibits, etc in Omeka.
