Please join us in the Libraries Screening Room on Saturday, October 27, at 2:30pm for a screening of, "Silvered Water: Syria Self-Portrait," sponsored by the Underground Film Series.

A documentary that has “transcended the document,” (Nicholas Elliot, Bomb Magazine) Silvered Water: Syria Self Portrait (2014), is the result of a remarkable co-production between Ossama Mohammed, a Syrian filmmaker unable to return to his country due to the ongoing civil war whose search for images of the conflict led to a partnership with Wiam Simax Bedirxan, a civilian turned filmmaker stranded in the city of Homs who repeatedly put herself into danger in order to capture the images which comprise this film. Devastating, yet suffused with beauty, Silvered Water asserts that documentary practices can go beyond recording atrocities and give birth to extended forms of connection in the digital age. (Dir. , 2014, 92 mins, DVD)

This event is free, but ticketed, and open to the public.
