Afro-Punk (2003) Screening and Discussion with James Spooner

Afro-Punk is an award-winning DIY documentary film exploring the experiences of black punk and hardcore kids within a predominantly white subculture. It raises questions around black identity, interracial dating, marginalization, the double consciousness of black Americans, and alienation. The film is also a time capsule for what black alternative youth experienced just as the world was beginning to shift with the power of the internet. Director James Spooner will be present to parse the film. Presented by Platform, a joint research initiative from CAHI and the Arts and Humanities Council.

This event is free, but ticketed, and open to the public.
