Chelsea Girls / 1966 / Andy Warhol, Paul Morrissey / 210 mins. / Contains Mature Content

While Andy Warhol was a prolific filmmaker before its release, The Chelsea Girls represents his first commercially successful foray in the medium. A profound technical accomplishment, the split-screen feature requires two 16mm projectors operated concurrently. Each reel, presented two at a time, provides a view of the life of the 1960s underground inside the famous Chelsea Hotel, spotlighting the activities of such Warhol superstars as Nico, Ondine, Mario Montez, and Ingrid Superstar, as well as music by the Velvet Underground. Due to the approximate timing of the instructions, every screening of the film is unique.

This event is free, but ticketed, and open to the public.
